Title: Allégro
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Jongin/Sehun, Kai/Jongin, Kai/Sehun
Summary: There’s Kai, and then there’s Jongin, and reality slips through Jongin’s fingers like sand as he dances under a single spotlight.
Warnings: (highlight to see) non-linear story-telling, split personalities (DID), ballet.

Author Notes: a kink_bingo fill (headspace/subspace), sort of for [livejournal.com profile] tatoeba, who joins me on my mad k_b quest, at a Kai-heavy price. This is pretty up there on the weirdness scale. It might be the strangest thing I have ever written. This was also supposed to be 3k, but here we are, have around 18k.

ACT I | ACT II

Story Notes and Extras: There’s a lot of ballet, in this story. Below are notes on the key terms, and additional structure notes about the story if you’re curious—they are not necessary to read the story, in my opinion, but in case you’re a nerd like I am, and can’t stand not knowing, I’ve attached an appendix of sorts. This project took a long time to figure out, and I think I cut and rewrote about 8k of it until I was pleased. I hope someone enjoys it, even if it’s not in the vein of what I usually write.

I’ve also included videos and music from the ballets I’ve referenced.

These notes were a lot longer, but I've decided to let things just stand on their own.

The story is structured somewhat like a stage rehearsal for a performance. Generally, the week before the show, a cast and second cast will both be in full time rehearsal on stage for a show going up the following week. The headers are instructions. Shouts, if you will, by the ballet master or mistress.

You may notice the mix of French and Italian… such is the international mix of ballet! It’s to my dismay that there isn’t more Russian.

Instead of alphabetical order, I’ve put them in order of appearance.

TEMPOS:

Adagio (Adage): slowly, stately. It’s very exacting and precise—the challenge is in completing the moves as elegantly as possible, without revealing the strain to your limbs.

Andante: It’s a medium, walking pace. Neutral speed, if you will.

Allegro: Quick, Lively. This pace is very fast, and equally challenging to the adagio in a different way, as it requires speedy leaps and perfect technique to prevent injury. It can also look sloppy if done incorrectly.

structurally, the parts follow the speed of the tempo they are set to! so adagio is slower than andante is slower than allegro.

BALLET AND MUSIC SELECTIONS:

Pétrouchka(links to Scene 1)
Spartacus (adagio)
Le Sacre du Printemps
The Sleeping Beauty (Aurora variation)
Sylvia (variation)
Swan Lake (ABT!!!, Finale)
