Part 5
At first, Jin didn’t notice the little changes in behavior. But then Yamapi started in with the touching, and boy did he notice that. Yamapi would touch him ALL THE TIME.
When they’d cross in the hallway on the way to the bathroom, Yamapi would make sure to brush him with his whole body.
When Jin opened the refrigerator in search of orange juice, bent over in front of it to reach into the back and get the new one, Yamapi would come up behind him and touch his waist briefly, rubbing his thumbs along Jin’s pelvic bones, just enough to make Jin start to harden, and then he would lean over, the whole weight of his body against Jin’s, pectorals pressed firmly into Jin’s shoulder blades. “Hey buddy, pour me a glass too, mmkay?” and Jin would squeak a response, too stunned to do anything else.
When they watched TV, Jin would sit on the opposite side of the couch from Yamapi, but by the end of the show, their bodies were always touching in a least six places, six places that burned Jin with way too much intensely from a simple brush of skin to skin.
Jin called Kame after 4 days. “Kame, I’m going to go to hell.”
“What now?” Kame was patient with him, and Jin intended to abuse that patience for all it was worth.
When Jin explained about the touching, Kame laughed. “It sounds the same as it used to be. You’re just probably over-analyzing it because you’re still confused about last weekend’s drunk thing.”
Jin was a little frustrated. It was different, he wasn’t imagining it. He just didn’t know why it was different.
After 3 more days of torture, Jin thought he might die. Actually just die. Whenever Yamapi came into a room, he would unconsciously flinch. Yamapi looked at him like he was crazy more that once as he made an alarmed noise every time Yamapi sat next to him on the couch, or walked past him in the hallway. “Are you alright Jin?”
Jin felt like a hunted animal, but he wasn’t sure why. Yamapi probably didn’t even realize how much Jin wanted to bend him over a table and…tell him about respecting personal space. Yeah. That.
One day, Jin was reading in the living room, and Yamapi came into the room and sat on the chair. Not on him, not so close Jin could feel every breath he took. He heard Yamapi open a magazine, and looked up with confusion, only to have his breath stop in his throat.
Yamapi was learning back on the armchair, reading his magazine peacefully. In a pair of briefs.
Jin briefly wondered if this was some new form of terrorism for his subconscious. “Where are your clothes?”
“It’s hot today,” Pi responded, and kept reading. Jin couldn’t decide which was worse, the touching or the naked.
Suddenly, Yamapi was naked everywhere. At the breakfast table, reading in the living room, washing dishes, checking the mail, doing arts and crafts on the kitchen floor, cooking. Jin hadn’t seen him wear more than 2 articles of clothing (boxers or briefs and maybe, if Jin was lucky, a pair of jeans) in about 2 weeks.
It was driving him insane. Why did his incredibly attractive roommate suddenly have this huge exhibitionist streak? (“It’s his own house, Jin! He doesn’t have to wear a full set of clothes to walk around his own house.” Kame had laughed. “It’s INDECENT,” Jin had replied angrily. “He’s absolutely INDECENT.")
Jin was walking in the hallway at the jimusho on the way to a vocal lesson. Work had become a safe place from the war at home, so Jin felt relatively safe to walk with his eyes straight in front of him. He turned the corner and suddenly heard voices from a room to his left. One voice was definitely Kame’s. “This is not a GAME, Yamashita. I’m covering for you, but you’ve got to stop before you hurt him.”
“I’m not playing a game,” said the answering voice, and it was Pi. “I’m playing for keeps, Kamenashi.”
Kame sighed, and Jin could perfectly imagine the look on his face. “The direct method is better.”
“We’ll see.”
After Jin heard that puzzling conversation, things took a turn for the worse back at the apartment.
Yamapi had developed this sudden fondness for candy canes. He had one in his mouth at all times. Licking sucking…
Jin called Koki. “Do you still need a roommate?” he asked desperately.
“Nope, Ueda’s moving in. Why? You find someone looking?”
“No,” Jin said dejectedly. “Never mind.”
Jin wasn’t sure how much more he could take.
Jin was so distracted, he told an interviewer that he was waiting for true love to kiss someone... on live TV.
Kame laughed, and told him he had won the forgiveness of every girl in Japan in one day. Manager gave him a pat on the back. Ryo sent him a disgusting text message filled with lewd remarks.
“True love, huh?” Yamapi asked over dinner.
“Not you too!”
“I think it’s cute.” Jin blushed.
