There´s so much I loved about this fic that I didn´t even know where to begin commenting (which is why it took me so long to write this comment, hahah XD).
In general I like it when people have a map on their wall or somewhere else, where they keep track of where they've been. But to see it like this, as a way to keep track of where Kame's heart has been, was really even more beautiful to me. I couldn't even imagine having a more than best friend like that and losing them and then have everybody tell you you're obviously special to them, because they send you two postcards a year. I would be like YEAH OBVIOUSLY NOT SPECIAL ENOUGH. And just, be angry, like, forever. XD
I liked the way the story unfolded. You have the present where Kame keeps denying anything ever happened between him and Jin and then as we get more glimpses we find out that there was more between them, only it included a lot of rejection but also kissing and just kdfjghsdfhg.
This one, though. Scrawled in rounded letters, the kind Jin’s perfected over the years until Kame can tell his Roman letters apart from anyone else’s no matter what, is the phrase ‘Il n'y a qu'un bonheur dans la vie, c'est d'aimer et d'être aimé’.
Kame looks it up, later, on Goo, and it turns out to be a quote from a “A Letter to Lina Calamatta,” a book by George Sand, a famous French writer famous for both her lovely prose and her wild lifestyle. Kame wonders how Jin knows about her—if he saw the quote somewhere, or if he saw a film about her, or if he’d looked this quote up just to make Kame’s palms sweat when he read the postcard.
It means: “There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved.”
Kame wonders, most of all, what that means to Jin. Because Jin…Jin has always loved. And, Kame knows better than anyone, Jin has always been loved.
This wasn't the only part that made me cry but it's one of my favorite parts in the fic. I was sitting here like OF COURSE KAME KNOWS JIN'S ALWAYS BEEN LOVED IF HE'S THE ONE WHO LOVED HIM AND WHY CAN'T THEY BE TOGETHER OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS SUCH A CRUEL PLACE etc etc you get the picture XD This fic made me ~feel~ a lot. I started Monday being really happy and Blue Monday, what Blue Monday. I LAUGH IN THE FACE OF DANGER. And then this fic happened and made me want to go sit in a dark corner and cry. But that's got. You have to have things that make you feel too much every once in a while.
There was a lot of humor in this fic as well, like the cab-driver!cracks at Kame. I really loved those parts too.
AND NAKAMARU AND MEISA GETTING MARRIED. THE UNIVERSE WOULD STOP EXISTING FROM THE AMAZINGNESS. XD
Also, Satellite Hearts is a beautiful song. I have a lot of love for Anya Marina's voice.
